ISSUES FACED BY THE COMMUNITY
- PUBLIC HEALTH
The majority of diseases in Jutiapa proliferate because of a lack of preventative measures and basic services,
such as trash removal and water treatment. The general public has to resort to home remedies because of the
absence of doctors, medicines, and because the community is unable to afford them. The local population is
further exposed to sickness through undernourishment and vitamin deficiency.

- NUTRITION
General poverty over generations is the root of the problem of bad nutrition. Maize, beans, sorghum, and the
occasional rice, are the only food sources cultivated by local families. Long hours in a harsh sun on exhausted
land are needed to produce insufficient foodstuffs. People only eat once a day.

- ORPHANS AND SENIOR CITIZENS
The few agencies there are to support orphans and impoverished seniors are found in cities, if at all, and
certainly not in the country. Both groups of people suffer greatly from abuse by families who cannot afford to
support them and look at them as an extra load in their already stretched existence.
All of these people are human beings who have a right to basic rights and help. Our organization is doing what it
can to provide this. A real solution to these problems is our ideal, but minimizing the current problems is our
short-term goal.
